Windsor Telecom employees have raised £500 for the company’s nominated charities, at a recent fundraising event in Dorset.

The charity night was held on Friday 9th January at the impressive Harbour Heights Hotel in Poole and was attended by all staff from the firm’s two offices in Dorset and Surrey.

The cash raised from sales of the tickets is to be split between Windsor’s nominated charities for 2009:

• Julia’s House, Dorset’s only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions.

• Chase Hospice Care for Children, which supports families with life-limited children in Surrey, Sussex and South West London.

Diane Pestell, Community Fundraiser for Julia’s House said: “‘Julia’s House is delighted to be one of Windsor Telecom’s nominated charities and we are very grateful for the donation raised at the fundraising night. Currently around 80 children benefit from care provided by our 65 skilled nurses and carers both at home and in our hospice in Corfe Mullen. For 2009 we need to raise £2.4 million and with less than 3% of our funding coming from government, we will only be able to achieve this with the support of businesses and the Dorset community.”

CHASE’s Corporate Fundraiser, Elena Jelley said: “CHASE hospice care for children provides care and support to over 300 families who all have one thing in common - a child who will not live to reach adulthood because of their medical conditions. We are very grateful to Windsor Telecom for supporting CHASE through their staff fundraising. Support from local businesses is crucial in raising the £4 million we need each year to run our vital service.”

Prizes for the evening were kindly donated by businesses that are local to Windsor Telecom’s two offices, including Harbour Heights, Zizzi’s Bistro in Farnham and

Despite all my years I still feel like a child within. I have a difficult time looking in the mirror and locating a real adult. I might have thought the birth of my 2nd child would have altered it, yet I still appear to be in denial of the aging process.

And regarding aging — or instead putting it off — my wife and I bought a brand new house and this home features room in the basement for the home gym my dear wfe had always sought. Of course, I’m seeing dollar signs when I ponder the many tiny and large things required, from the necessary but often forgotten weight-lifting benches and exercise mat to selecting the best of the many stationary bicycles. An exercise bike can be difficult these days. Do I go with an upright or a recumbent stationary bike? Should you choose an electronic or analog?

My wife seems determined to get an elliptical machine as well. Yes you read that correctly. A stationary bicycle and an elliptical trainer — not one or the other. My estimate is that the extra exercise equipment will go with the cream for stretch marks she began using after the birth of youngest daughter. I’m sure I’ll regret that joke.

I must be careful with the budget because our new home is more of a fixer-upper. We required it to be this way, yet we still have to carefully budget everything, even to a knob for a cabinet (I’m not kidding). My wife has a pretty ambitious cabinet refacing project plotted, but I have to remind her the bathroom sinks she wishes installed shall cost a fair amount, as well.

Thankfully, she and I both like the rustic, natural look, so we’re furnishing our new house with unfinished furnitures. Of course, it still involves some finishing, but she and I can keep our expenses down and produce higher quality furniture than we could find anywhere anyways.

I uncovered a great table for coffee with some nice, natural knotting and a couple console tables in matching cedar. For our patio outside we’re considering outdoor fireplaces and we’ll furnish with a little budget wicker furniture at first.

Supplying a brand new house might seem so mature, but I can’t help but feel like I am merely playing house. The new exercise equipment and furniture merely feel as a new generation of playthings.
